Corfu, Greek Islands
At Salty Supply, we love a September holiday. It's the perfect time to travel—the season's ending, the kids are back at school, and it's less crowded, yet everything is still open. Plus, the weather is just right—not too hot, making it the ideal month for a summer getaway.
You can’t really go wrong when visiting any Greek Islands. It’s beautiful landscape and scenery, the people, the food, the weather. It’s always top notch, there is little room for error.
Join us in this mini travel journal as we explore our favourite beach spots in Corfu, Greece.
Porto Timoni Beach
This was one of the first beaches we ventured to, it was a must-see destination when we were researching places to visit in Corfu. I’ve come to realise that the best beaches are often the hardest to reach. Porto Timoni Beach is no exception, it’s a bit of a trek. Once you finally descend to sea level, the heat makes you want to strip off and dive straight into the crystal-clear, warm waters. It's the ultimate refresh (and workout).
Pros: Stunning views from start to finish, gorgeous blue waters, and despite the challenging hike, you feel amazing once you’re there. Cons: The sand is rocky, not soft or fine, and it can get pretty busy. There are no toilets or snacks available.
After the walk up from the beach, we headed straight for a late lunch at Anafoufou. The most amazing views overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.
When visiting Greece, make sure to rent a small boat for the day – it’s by far the best (and often the only) way to access the hidden gems along the coast. These secluded spots are tucked away where the coastline is rocky, making them nearly impossible to reach by land. Before setting off, drop by a local supermarket to stock up on some essentials. Grab fresh bread, a selection of meats and cheeses, a few beers, and any other treats you’d like. Load up the boat’s cooler, and you’re ready for a perfect day on the water! Rubber ring and snorkels optional.
In Greece, you don’t need a boating license to rent a small boat, which makes it easy for anyone to explore the coast. These boats are straightforward to operate and provide just enough speed. It’s different from places like Spain, where small boat rentals are often limited by slower speeds, stricter regulations, and higher costs. One of the beautiful things about Greece is its relaxed, laid-back approach to life. The locals make it easy to embrace the easy-going, adventurous spirit of island life, where you can simply hop on a boat, stress free.

An Aperol with a view? Yes please.
After a day on the water, getting sun kissed, we headed straight to Eucalyptus Taverna for an Aperol spritz and chips (name a better duo). An idyllic seaside restaurant that perfectly captures the essence of Greece’s coastal charm. Sitting right on the waterfront, the restaurant offers gorgeous views that take your dining experience to another level.
We took a day to explore Corfu Old Town, where you are spoilt for rich history and vibrant culture. The sun was in and out —perfect for a day in the city, where we could wander through the narrow, cobblestone streets without the usual summer heat.
Our mission for the day was clear: to find the best gyros in Corfu Town. After some exploring, we stumbled upon a small deli that was bustling with people, clearly a local favourite. Every seat inside was taken, and the line was almost spilling onto the street. With nowhere to sit, we decided to embrace the lively atmosphere and enjoy our gyros curbside - it was a solid 10/10. I wish I could remember the name of the place, but don’t worry—you’ll know how to find it. Just follow the crowd!
La Grotta Beach Bar
If you’re not looking to hire a car but want to spend a day or two exploring the Island, a great mode of transport is a hiring a little scooter. It’s actually not that hard once you get used to it and my boyfriend did most of the driving. I was the passenger princess enjoying the views. I personally love a little scooter, it was the highlight of the trip. It’s reasonably priced to hire one, you just need a regular driving license, a helmet and some bravery. You’re good to go…
We travelled from Acharavi in the north to the west coast to visit the famous La Grotta Beach Bar, which I’d discovered on Pinterest. The diving board alone had me sold! We arrived late in the afternoon, so the sun had already dipped behind the rocks—I’d recommend going in the early afternoon for the best experience.
La Grotta Beach Bar has a lively atmosphere, but it’s a bit pricey and exclusive. Since we tend to prefer more laid-back spots, we ventured to a stunning nearby beach: Liapades Beach which was perfect.
I sadly didn’t get any good quality pictures of Liapades Beach but I can leave that one to your imagination.
To conclude, Corfu is a beautiful Island, with plenty to do and something for everyone. I don’t think I loved it enough to return for a second time, however it offers exactly what you want for a week away in the Med. It has sublime weather, incredible beaches and a greek salad that comes with a whole block of feta. What more could you really ask for?
